Cabois Community School
Cabois Community School’s mission is to provide a quality education to the children of the poorest families in Cabois. (Click here to view a video) Situated in the countryside outside Leogane, it encourages local development by teaching students to participate in their education and in the life of their community. To support this mission, Cabois Community School functions in Haitian Creole, uses participatory education methods, and involves students and other community members in volunteer service projects.
In October 2009, with help from the Vista Hermosa Foundation, Cabois Community School became one of Haiti Partners first three formal Partner Schools. Though this partnership started very well, on January 12, 2010, the school was completely destroyed by the massive earthquake whose epicenter was only miles away.
Since this time Cabois Community school has been blessed with the generous support of the Zyman Foundation which is funding the construction of a Learning Center/Shelter on the site where the original school once stood. Additional support has come from Christa’s Angels, whose founder, Christa Brelsford, lost her foot in the earthquake but has since turned her personal tragedy into a symbol of hope for both Haiti and Cabois Community School.
Haiti Partners is grateful to have such inspiring partners to collaborate with in supporting Cabois Community School. If you would like to support us in this partnership, please contact us at: info@haitipartners.org
