Lalo Community School

Lalo Community School was founded in 1994 by Marie José Augustin. Its mission is to help people in the community to find the best possible education.  Mr. Augustin founded it in response to the lack of schools in the area and the great number of children who were going without an education as a result.

The community of Lalo is just up the hill from Mariaman, where the Bellevue Guesthouse is located and where Haiti Partners co-director John Engle has lived for over a decade.  Over the years, John became acquainted with the principal at the school, Darius Emile, and the two began to consider a possible partnership.  When the quake hit in January 2010, they decided that it was time to get started.

Since this time, Haiti Partners has been helping Lalo Community School with its operation costs.  Our goal is to build a Learning Center/Shelter, and, on the partner school model, to provide training in participatory education methods and help the school establish a sustainable source of revenue for the future.

If you would like to support us in this partnership, please contact us at: info@haitipartners.org
